Job description:

Main purpose of the role:
The role of the Team Leader will be to support the store management team. This involves overseeing the running of the store at designated times, ensuring strong retail disciplines are in place and ensuring consistency of standards across the store.

The ideal candidate will have/be:
- A proven track record of achieving a high standard of performance
- Minimum 1-year experience in grocery retail
- Excellent communication skills and a commitment to customer service

Main duties:

- Assist the Store Manager in achieving best practice standards across the store to ensure the store objectives are met and continuously improved upon
- Maintain best practice standards across the departments at all times and assist in the creation of a positive working environment for colleagues within their department
- Act as a role model for colleagues within the store by demonstrating excellence in company standards
- Carry out operational training and coaching e.g. chemical training or machine training as well as the implementation of new processes and procedures

Main Purpose of the Job:

To ensure the store operates efficiently and effectively and provides our customers with the very best customer service and fresh food offering at all times.

Relevant Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years` experience in a Fresh Food Department;
  • Previous management experience is an advantage;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Good delegation skills;
  • An understanding of how to achieve KPIs and targets;
  • Passion for fresh food.

Main Duties:

  1. Always ensure that customer satisfaction is the number one priority by greeting each customer as if it`s their first visit to the store and consistently deliver an exceptional service by displaying I-CARE service excellence behaviours;
  2. Organised, self-driven, excellent attention to detail and use own initiative;
  3. Approachable and a role model who leads by example and encourages teamwork, foster a positive attitude and atmosphere in the workplace;
  4. To ensure fresh targets agreed with Store Manager/Owner are achieved;
  5. Seek opportunities for personal development to enhance technical and professional skills;
  6. Develop the fresh team to meet the SuperValu Retail Excellence and I-CARE Service Excellence standards; by training, coaching, undertaking performance appraisals, and assessing employee training requirements, ensuring appropriate training programmes are in place as agreed with the Store Manager;
  7. Oversee and ensure the smooth running of the fresh departments by prioritising and delegating the workload appropriately;
  8. Foster good working relationships among the team;
  9. Participate in community events as directed by Store Owner/Manager;
  10. Hold regular fresh food meetings and communicate relevant details and results to the team;
  11. Ensure all fresh employees wear their full uniform, name badge and display a neat appearance at all times as per their department;
  12. Manage employee performance, giving regular feedback, recognition and encouragement;
  13. Deal with all customer queries and complaints politely, professionally and consistent with store policy;
  14. Have a working knowledge of and ensure compliance with relevant legislation as it pertains to the Store, in particular but not limited to, Food Safety regulations, Health & Safety regulations, sale of alcohol and employment legislation;
  15. Ensuring all HACCP best practices are implemented across the store;
  16. Achieve Emerald status in EIQA;
  17. Ensure adherence to Store rules, policies and procedures;
  18. Manage employee rostering and annual leave for fresh departments;
  19. Set, monitor and achieve sales targets with the team on gross profit margin, net margin, waste and other KPIs as agreed with Store Manager;
  20. Control stocktaking and overheads as per fresh budget;
  21. Ensure merchandising and presentation of the fresh department is of the highest standard at all times and in accordance with relevant store planograms and guidelines;
  22. Implement policies to gain operational efficiencies i.e. Gold reports/scanning information etc.;
  23. Attend relevant training as required and implement learnings in store;
  24. Actively live SuperValu brand-values i.e. Genuine, Passion for Food, Vibrant, Committed, Innovative and Imaginative;
  25. Perform any other duties or assume any other responsibilities that may be assigned to you from time to time. These may be outside of your normal area of work. Furthermore, you may be assigned to work in other areas within the Store on either a temporary or permanent basis.
